Let’s Make Pakistan Clean
Have you recently visited a park or a market place? You might have visited a restaurant or a hospital to see your acquaintance. Did you ever notice what people leave behind, when they are done. Lots of people visit such places for work, fun, entertainment and enjoyment. But when they leave, they might have left the place with trash and smelly rubbish. Whether we accept it or not, littering is becoming a habit of all of us. We dispose off material openly in the place without thinking about the consequences of our actions. Whatever we do, good or bad, it has a prominent effect on our surroundings. Our small deeds can either make the environment clean or can fill it with a rubbish.
Go to any park and you’ll find apple cores, banana peels and melon skins that are left strewn around. These make the parks and gardens look like rubbish dumps instead of a recreational place where people go for health and refreshment. Go to any public place and you’ll find cigarette butts, broken bottles, plastic bags, sweets and chips wrappers, half-eaten food and rotten fruits thrown carelessly on the ground, parking areas and sidewalks. What does all this tell us about our civic sense and social values?
What might be reasons for this? Lets suppose you are walking down the road or in a park and you have something in your hand that you want dispose. Before throwing it you will think for a minute and then dispose it off openly. The question is what did you think before throwing it off? At first it might have struck your mind that you should throw the rubbish in the trash box but then you reflected, “What are the sweepers for anyways?”
Or you might have thought that the proper disposing area is too far and you don’t seem to feel like walking that far. So it might be caused due to our laziness. Or else you would think “Who cares? I’m here just for a little while.” This state of mind cause us to indulge in this foolish act. In the same way, whenever we see trash along our way, we would never bend, pick it up and throw it in the trash box. Why? Maybe because of our ego. The only thing that we can think of at that time is, “I didn’t drop it, its not my headache”.
Everywhere we go, we throw trash without even thinking about the consequences. Such rubbish thrown off openly attracts flies, germs or even rodents in some cases. We create this mess everywhere. The rotten fruits give out toxins and smells that are extremely harmful for health. This is how a place is converted into an untidy, smelly area where no one likes to go. And keep this in mind, that all this depicts actually our civics individually or as a nation.
A lot of the people belonging to Pakistan, are seen talking about the cleansing of their country. Whenever they watch other countries especially the developed ones on media or in movies or so, they frequently ask, “How long will it take to make Pakistan that much clean?” But the answer is, that it would never be possible to clean up Pakistan unless we, the people, are not willing to do so. Unless we don’t take it as our responsibility to clean our surroundings, our environment, our country will remain filthy. A common man like you and me, might not do any possible thing about the political issues. But this is something that we can control. This is a little example of what we can do for our country. If all of us join hands to clean Pakistan, then I guarantee it won’t take us long to give our country the same look as any of the well developed country. So lets promise our own selves that right from this moment, we would do every possible thing to clean Pakistan.
Here are some simple ways to keep our surrounding clean:
1- Obviously, do not litter.
2- Tell your fellows politely if you catch them littering.
3- Whenever you go for a picnic, keep a bag with you to collect all of your trash and then throw it off at the proper place.
4- Spread awareness by discussing the fatal effects of littering with the people around you.
5- If you witness an area where there is no proper trash box places, immediately inform the authorities.
