A group of Muslims clerics in Yemen warned US that they will call the Jehad if the US send troops to fight Al-Qaeda in Yemen. Sheikh Abdul Majid al-Zindani, the highly influential cleric in Yemen, on jan 14 delivered a fatwa against any foreign military intervention in Yemen.
“If any foreign country insists on aggression and the invasion of the country or interference, in a military or security way, Muslim sons are duty bound to carry out jihad and fight the aggressors,” the cleric said in a statement.
Al-Zindani is a well known religious and political figure. He is the founder of religious institute Jamiyat Al-Iman. Al-Zindani has a history of inspiring Jehadist, he also transported thousands of Yemeni and Saudi fighters to Afghanistan to combat the Soviets in 1980.
This whole thing was started after the failed attempt to bomb US airline on Christmas Day. US investigators say the Nigerian suspect in the failed attack told them he received training and instructions from al-Qaida in Yemen.
